Landmark Birmingham scheme The Lansdowne celebrates topping out

SevenCapital has celebrated the topping out of its landmark residential scheme The Lansdowne Birmingham along with representatives from main contractor Interserve and Long Harbour, and joined by Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street.

Less than 18 months since the project first broke ground, the roof has been installed and internal fit out has commenced for one of Birmingham’s first Build-to-Rent schemes.

Due for completion in April 2019, the 18-storey scheme will provide quality private rented accommodation in one, two and three-bed configurations in addition to parking for 105 cars. Specifically designed for the rental market, the building will offer a private lounge, gym, premium bike storage and a cultural mixer.

So far 320 brick faced, precast concrete panels have been craned into place and nearly 500 windows installed by a team numbering over 100 at peak. Apartment fit out is now progressing up to the 11th floor.

Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, who represents 2.8 million people across seven local council areas and champions economic growth, transport, housing and skills and jobs throughout the region said: “The Lansdowne is another example of the quite astonishing construction boom in the West Midlands at the moment. One look at the cranes on the skyline shows how confidence in our towns and cities is continuing. The Lansdowne underlines this, a large-scale development in a gateway position to Birmingham city centre. Everybody involved deserves warm congratulations for what they have been able to make happen here”.

Gordon Kew, Managing Director, Interserve Construction said “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone on this flagship building which is adjacent to one of the key arterial routes into Birmingham. The scheme has championed modern methods of construction from the outset and is a fantastic example of offsite manufacturing and on-site assembly which particularly suits this market sector”.

Phil Carlin, Managing Director at SevenCapital said: “The Lansdowne forms part of SevenCapital’s significant Birmingham apartment development pipeline where circa 2,000 units are either complete or in similar advanced stages of construction. Birmingham city centre is experiencing an incredible renaissance and pioneering projects such as this are at the forefront of change, but they only succeed due to the capability of the delivery team, stakeholder’s commitments, sheer hard work and determination. Today marks an important milestone in the journey and we look forward to the completion of the project early next year”.
