Green Light for New Homes and Retail Development in Stirchley

Green light for new homes and retail in Stirchley

A site in Stirchley, Birmingham, which has laid derelict for more than 20 years, has finally been given the green light for development.

SevenCapital acquired the nine-acre site, which sits at the heart of Stirchley on the Pershore Road, from its previous owner Tesco in late 2017. Outline planning permission has been granted to bring forward plans for a mixed-use scheme comprising a supermarket, gym and 3,000 sq. ft. of retail, with up to 87 residential units to the rear.

The residential element will include a mix of two-, three- and four- bedroom houses plus affordable housing. A further and key benefit of the development will be the improvement of pedestrian and cycle links between Stirchley high street and Hazelwell Park.

Damien Siviter, Group Managing Director at SevenCapital said: “Stirchley has been waiting for many years for this site to be transformed from its current status. We’re pleased to have been able to bring forward a good, sustainable plan for the site that will create jobs, much needed housing and bring economic and aesthetic benefit to the area.

“We will now get to work on the reserved matters application which will then allow us to move forwards with plans to bring the site to life.”
